Chennai – OMR / My City – My Place

OMR – The Road And It’s Commuters:

The IT corridor which acts as a speed zone for the teens and at times plays a role of a water pool for swimmers and nonswimmers. Next to ECR, to drive on this OMR stretch would always be there on everyone’s mind especially when a person buys a bike/car.

What’s not there at OMR?

Starting from restaurants to 5-star hotels, automobile showrooms and IT giants this stretch is always a focus zone for small scale and large scale entrepreneurs.

The most happening place for realtors irrespective of how this place looks when it rains heavily. This post is not about the goodies and baddies of this road instead it’s all about the road and it’s commuters.

If You Can Drive In India, You Can Do Drive Anywhere Without Fear:

It is not at all a new thing for me to hear from my friends, colleagues and sometimes unknown co-passengers from different regions saying this sentence.

A Person from Mumbai/Delhi says that if one knows how to drive in their cities, then they can drive or ride the vehicle in any part of the world. This is the same thing which I had heard from a person who hails from Hyderabad/Bangalore and other regions too. If I ask the reason behind what they say, I get a response like this.

With the traffic violations and lack of road sense among some people including the ones who are very well educated a normal commuter’s life has become horrible. So, people get adjusted to every ridiculous thing that happens on the road and sometimes does the same thing that is against traffic rules even after knowing that they are doing a wrong thing. Indians get accustomed to new things very faster. Not just within India but even at other countries, Indians learn to drive quickly because of this trait. I can agree with this answer to some extent.

Not just me. Many of you reading this post might be having the same impression and agree with me. But, if we go a bit deep and see the root of it, I think that this is not something for us to feel proud instead we should feel ashamed irrespective of the region where we are.

Is India Different?

I had been to two different countries. In both the places, the first preference is always given to the Pedestrians and School going kids on road in addition to an emergency vehicle. I strongly believe that is the same thing which we have got too on the rules book of India.

But, do we witness that on our roads often?

I can pick the very familiar Rajiv Gandhi IT Expy (aka) OMR as an example.

Don’t we push a pedestrian, a two-wheeler rider, a four-wheeler rider to a spot where they get scared to death?

Most of us do it knowingly and unknowingly.

– A Pedestrian gets scared because of the people who ride and drives an automobile.

– Two-wheeler riding person gets scared because of the four-wheeler (car) driver and vice-versa.

– A person who drives a car also gets scared because of the heavy vehicles on road.

A Daily Routine At The OMR:

One of the busy roads during weekdays where there is no safety for the lives of a user as well as the vehicles. Strictly obeying traffic rules is one side, but the courtesy to fellow users that one needs to have while on road no longer exist here. Even if it exists that will be at the bare minimum percentage according to me.

The Kings/Queens Of OMR:

I am a user of this IT corridor since 2010.

Everything mentioned below is purely based on what I had seen and found to be bad. I am sure most of the other user’s of this road would also agree to it. The stretch where some people considers themselves as a Kings and Queens of the road.

Forget about the Madras Motor Race Track that is in Irungattukottai where you can have sights of a two-wheeler and a four-wheeler racing. If you would like to see the racing of heavy vehicles like government Buses and Trucks then OMR is the best spot for you to choose.

The Familiar Scenes At The IT Corridor:

Scene – 1: The Bus Drivers

The bus race that happens at OMR between the government bus drivers. I am not sure why do they do it.

– It is very clear that their understanding of parallel parking is totally different. They stop the bus at the bus stop in parallel to another already standing bus leaving bare minimum space on the right lane.

– Even if there is a space where a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler rider can pass, some of the bus driving kings ensure that they close that gap so that the entering vehicle’s driver stop their vehicle to avoid getting crushed.

– These Kings are doing a great job in taking the passengers to their destination safely. At the same time, they showcase their driving skills not just on the roads but on the service lanes too.

My Views:

Dear, some of the Govt Bus Drivers & Corporate Bus Drivers – We know that you too get irritated because of hot weather and sitting for long in heavy traffic. But, it would be really awesome if you think about the safety of others who use the same road too.

Scene – 2: The Trucks / Lorry Drivers

We can say that they are the hidden Health Officials of OMR.

No doubt that they help us by collecting the sewage from our homes on regular basis. But, all their good efforts go in vain as the actions of some of them are really terrible especially on roads like OMR.

We may not see a large number of Trucks on this stretch but that is very well compensated by the sewage water collecting lorries and metro water supplying lorries.

With an unskilled cleaner who signals with their hands even when their vehicle is not gonna take any turns, we can witness the maximum speed of a lorry that too high volume of wastewater in it.

My Views:

Dear, some of the lorry drivers, please remember that you are driving a vehicle carrying heavy loads. Please do drive at the recommended speed. For heaven’s sake, teach the cleaner on when to give hand signals as they confuse the driver behind. Please try to find the difference between each color that glows in a signal pole.

Scene – 3: The Share Auto Drivers

The Masculine Snakes of OMR.

I think 90 percent of these autos which run on this stretch holds weakened brake shoes and pedals in it. The share auto driver’s (not all of them) liking towards the zebra crossing is stunning. I had hardly seen a share auto that stops on the correct and safe spot to pick and drop its passengers.

They always would either be on top of the Zebra crossing/stop line or before or after the crossing. Even when the signal turns green they will ensure that the vehicles standing behind don’t move until they fill their autos with passengers which really annoys.

I had addressed the share autos as snakes of OMR as it was mostly driven in a zigzag manner. The auto drivers hardly use indicator lights instead scare other users and their vehicles by just hopping into a different lane when least expected.

But, there is one thing to be noted here in all the above mentioned three scenes.

All these drivers are highly skilled. Though they are rash on road we can hardly see them making an accident. But for sure they scare the fellow riders of the road by cutting the lanes, stopping their vehicles all of a sudden without indicating. Some of these activities of the drivers give a bare minimum time frame for the other users of the road to react leading to unwanted gestures and verbals fly in the air.

My Views:

Dear, some of the share auto drivers, we understand that you have minimal scope to view what is behind you on road. When that is the case, please do not jump on to the road like a racing horse.

Scenes – 4 & 5: The Cars And Bike Users Of OMR

One can find most types of the cars and bikes on this stretch. Starting from old premier Padmini of Fiat to Ferrari and TVS XL super to Kawasaki Ninja’s & Harley Davison’s on this 20.1 Kilometer stretch starting from Madhya Kailash junction in Adyar to Siruseri.

Dear friends, let us admit. Most of us do not follow lane discipline in our own countries, but stick to the lanes and follow the rules of a different country when we are abroad.

Maybe because the punishment is very strong there where one could lose their Driver’s license validity if found guilty. We do have the same rule but we do not mind about it much as we can fly from the spot by handing over a hundred rupee note as a penalty/bribe to the traffic police officials. No speeding tickets here. You may be asked to stop for not wearing a helmet or a seatbelt. But, all that takes is a hundred rupee note to move on.

My Views:

Dear two-wheeler rider, you will not understand the pain of driving a car until you start to drive your own car.

It is a bit difficult to drive a car in heavy traffic.

You will also see a scene where two-wheelers peeping into the small gap to pass your car even when there is no space. I can vouch for it as I had realized it as soon as I started driving my four-wheeler at Hyderabad.

Please do consider the amount of money a four-wheeler driving person had invested on his/her car. Owning a car is a Liability and not an Asset.

Most of the times, their car is on road because of the bank loan and not because of the full cash payment from their savings.

To see a hanging back/front bumper, broken side view mirrors, dents on the bonnet and side doors will induce great pain in the hearts of the car owners as well as the cab drivers who drive someone else’s vehicle for their living.

I am One Among You:

Saying all the above does not make me a Mr. Perfect. But, I still wanted to share this with everyone and also reiterate myself one thing. We need to ensure our safety as well as others while on road.

I do admit that I drive fast especially when the road is a bit empty. My own people had told me that accompanying me in my scooter/car is like going on a roller coaster.

So, most of us are alike. But, we can try to do smaller good things at least so that it becomes a habit.

For Everyone Including Myself:

  • Allow the pedestrians to pass.

– Maybe they are walking when they are not supposed to but still, please forgive them and allow them to pass.

  • Use the vehicle’s horn wisely.

– Maybe there is no one crossing the road in front but the signal is still in red. Please be patient and help the driver in front to be calm.

– They are also tempted just like you to accelerate but still trying to stick to the rules.

– You need not appreciate but allow them to stay with peace instead of honking.

  • Please stick to the lanes.

– If you need to switch the lanes, please turn on the indicators well ahead.

– Just because you had indicated does not mean that you can jump on to a different lane. By jumping, you are just gonna mess with the users who are already in that lane. Be Courteous.

  • Stop blaming the traffic police officials for taking a bribe.

Do not like them taking money from you? Then do not give them a chance.

– Wear Seatbelts always.
– Do not forget to wear a Helmet.
– Keep your insurance renewed and a copy of the documents handy.

Stay Motivated. Let us be the change that we wish to see in the world.

Uber CEO – Why Not Marissa Mayer?

Uber CEO – Why Not Marissa Mayer?

Marissa Mayer, the name which we can find in the list of the powerful technology leaders in the world. Though, she is not the CEO of Yahoo! now, we can look forward to the news about her in short time saying that XX company had roped in Marissa as its new CEO. I had assumed that Marissa would be the best bet for the CEO position at Uber.

But, the news about Dara Khosrowshahi (Cause-Row-Sha-hee) as Uber’s new CEO made me dig further more on the reason why Uber did not choose Marissa.

Here is the latest information. The current Expedia CEO had mentioned that he is planning to accept the CEO of uber position. It is to be noted that there were other leaders too like Jeff Immelt, CEO of GE and HP CEO Meg Whitman in the shortlisted candidate’s list.

I had started to admire Marissa Mayer – a tech leader with great competency from the moment I saw her one-page resume over the internet via Linkedin.

I had read and followed the news more about Marissa when compared to the other eligible candidates mentioned above. Hence, I am gonna jot down my understanding of why uber had not chosen Marissa for their CEO position.

Uber – A Company With No Shepherd For Now:

Yes, the leading transportation service provider in the world is without a CEO since June after the founder CEO Travis Kalanick had moved out. With the negative images gained recently, the company needs a most efficient person to lead. To bring them back to track especially to erase the negative impressions from the memory of their own employees and the users who rely on this great startup.

Qualities That Uber Might Have Looked For In A Candidate:

  • Experience in the field of Travel and Transportation.
  • A person who will go along rather than dominating.
  • Peer friendly leader.
  • A leader with more positive feedback on their records.
  • An individual who can positively impact the employee morale.
  • A person who can help grow the revenue of the company

All these being said, let us now see the reasons that could have forced Uber to drop Marissa Mayer’s name from the CEO pick list.

All the below mentioned are purely based on what I had read and learned from various sources. Some of you might deny some points too but still, I am going ahead…

Why Not Marissa Mayer?

May be because,

  • She is a person who had got more products based experience and not operational based.
  • Her style of work. She relies more on data-driven management and very particular about everything in detail.
  • The peer feedback – People who had worked under her leadership says that she is robotic.
  • Approval rating as per glass door went down from 99% in 2012 to 64% at the time of Marrisa leaving the company.
  • She is not inclined towards delegation.
  • Marissa does not speak much even with the people who directly report to her unless required.
  • Read that she had once micromanaged a senior person when that person’s team members were present.
  • She is not always punctual.

Everyone has got their own style of work which sometimes becomes a hit and sometimes a flop. This awesome tech leader had lost the grace because of the above-mentioned traits as some of them did not go well with her peers and people around.

Why Dara Khosrowshahi?

  • He is the CEO of Expedia, a travel company. Remember that Trivago advertisement nowadays on TV? It is also owned by Expedia.
  • Has also got the required finance background with a stint of 7 years at Allen & Co bank.
  • A Great leader according to the employees of Expedia.
  • He has a proven track record of increasing the revenue of Expedia from $2.1 billion in 2005 to $8.7 billion in 2016.
  • Honored as a Highest Rated CEO with an approval rate of 93% according to the glass door.
  • A friendly and outspoken type.
  • He is surrounded by relatives with huge potential in the field of business as well as in the technology area.

The Take Away’s:

Both Marissa Mayer and Dara Khosrowshahi are great leaders and there is no doubt about it.

But still, from the above mentioned Why and Why Not, it is very clear on what is required to become a “Highly” successful leader.

I am using the term as “Highly” as I strongly believe that Marissa is also a successful leader.

Who has not got negatives?

I agree, that certain things did not go well for Marissa at Yahoo but that does not mean that it is going to be like that forever.

From my understanding on what I read about Marissa, she is a great listener. That is one of the best and great trait a business leader should have. She is a role model for many.

Keeping my fingers crossed now to hear the news about the firm which she would soon be leading.

Happy Tuesday 🙂

Top 10 Things To Do When You Feel Stuck @ Workplace

Are You Stuck?

There are times when our mind gets frozen/stuck making us difficult to arrive at a decision. Some times when we are at the workplace and at times when we are at our home too. To get stuck or to experience indecisiveness is not very uncommon in our daily machine life.

We might find that we enter into a wishy-washy state in two kinds of scenarios.

  1. When we reach a point where we don’t find any more solution for an issue.
  2. When we have a lot of thoughts in mind but unable to act towards one.

Scenario – 1:

There is nothing in our world without a solution. The only thing what we need to do to tackle this scenario is to change the way we approach a problem in question.

My Experience With Scenario 1:

It was in the year 2011 and it was already past 11 PM. I was breaking my head at the work place while writing an ABAP logic as a part of my assignment. Though the program was written correctly, I was unable to get rid of the syntax error the system had thrown.

With most of the workstations empty, it was just my colleague-friend named Jeswanth Kadali and I in one of the conference room. My friend is a person who had started his career as an ABAP programmer.

Though it was just a cake walk for him to spot an issue in programs, that day the time was not in our favor. It was 11.30 PM already and we were unable to identify the reason for the error. My hopes drained, our eyes were dry and our minds were stuck with no alternatives.

With no options hitting our brain, I had pinged my onsite counterpart and explained the issue. He signed in into the system and confirmed that he sees a message “Syntax Check Successful” at the status bar of the SAP GUI. Awesome, we both sighed with a smile.

What Was The Issue?

None. We had looked at the issue in all major aspects. The only thing which we had missed is that we never tried to log out of the system and log in again. I am sure that most of the SAP consultants would have faced this scenario at least once in their career :).

A simple approach that we had overlooked, would have saved us time.

Scenario – 2:

The only thing needed to handle scenario 2 is a break. A human brain is a miracle. A medium that can make a person reach greater heights if utilized well. Giving our brain a break can be related to how we give rest to an electronic appliance or a machine after a long run by turning it off.

How To Unlock Ourselves When We Are Stuck?

Sitting idle will not help us to free up our brain. Do not wait.

Focus on to some simple tasks which we can complete in no time. The progression we had made in the new task will clear the mind.

The task you choose need not be specific to your work. It can be somewhat stupid too as I had mentioned below in this article.

Simple But Productive Tasks To Do When We Are Stuck:

  • Move from your place, stretch yourself or walk.

– You can move around to refill the water bottle.

  • Try Box Breathing technique to unlock your stuck mind.

– Navy Teams practice this technique to calm their nervous system and to remain stable at the time of stress.

  • Look at someone who is highly involved in a task.

– We have got something called “Mirror Neurons” in our brain. When we see someone who is working hard, that activates the mirror neurons of our brain. These neurons in our brain make us feel as though we are doing that task.

Ever thought about the below mentioned?

Why do we cry when we see an emotional scene in a movie?

Why do we feel bad when we come across an accident on a road?

It is none other than the mirror neurons that play a role here.

  • Clean your desk. If it’s already clean, clean the keyboard and the display of your laptop.

– Keyboards are the place where bacteria’s stays due to dirt accumulation.

– We need to switch off and switch on our Android cell phones at least once in two days. Doing so would clear the cache files, in turn, saves memory and will respond faster.

  • Move low priority emails to their respective folders in the mailbox.

– Execute the email rules you had set.

  • Watch that favorite clip that motivates you or makes you smile.
  • Listen to one good song that makes you forget every thing for few minutes.
  • Clean up or move unwanted old files and documents from the home screen of your computer to a folder.

– Having our files and documents organized well save us time when there is a need.

The Funny Act:

Below is one of the stupid/funny things that we can do to unlock our brain.

If you have a close friend/colleague nearby, press the seat lever of their chair. Do this with caution and only to your close friends.

– It creates laughter around you. Bring smiles on your friends face.

To bring a smile on others face is a great thing.

The above mentioned are not the only simple things we have got. Every individual will have their own interest making the options more dynamic. Do share these techniques with your friends and colleagues when you find them stuck.

If you have got some other approaches to unlock minds, feel free to share those in the comments section. Your approach might help many people who read this post.

How to Reduce Stress by Breathing Like a Navy SEAL

Software Jobs – Our Paychecks Stops, The Moment We Stop Working.

How safe are our software jobs?

The term pink slip is not something which we haven’t heard about before when it comes to software jobs. But, what’s new is the number or the count of pink slips being issued by the software based employers to their employees.

Our Paychecks Stops, The Moment We Stop Working.

software jobs

Whom should we blame here?

To blame is very easy.

Some of us might feel that the software companies and the market conditions are the ones to be blamed. But, if we look a bit more, we the employees do have a role to play in this blame game.

None of the providers of the software jobs in India or in the world mention or ever mentioned saying that the job offered is permanent. I do not think that we have got such a clause in the offer letters we receive.

But, what we do have is a clause saying that there is a possibility of termination based on the performance and some of the other criteria’s. When it comes to performance, it is not wholly the employees but also the performance of the employer. This is something which we are witnessing for the past few months around the world.

Automation – An Evolving Term:

Automation had always proved that they can help the information technology sector companies. It ensures to keep the profit statistics of a company to go high on the green in the profit and loss statement.

The term Automation – known for gulping good numbers of head counts and make m disappear in the job market in no time. From my perspective, it is the major competing force which stands against a software developer who physically works when comes to job security.

All these being said, there is one thing we should remember always. The huge number of lines of code written for that automation to work is not something which had fallen from the sky one fine day. We, the software engineers are the brain behind those lines of code which is the crux for the automation to work.

India – Not The Only Destination For Companies Abroad:

There was a time when software developers in India are the most preferred by developed countries. But, that scenario is no longer valid.

I have seen some of the clients focusing on to the professionals in Ukraine when compared to the professionals in the software jobs in India. The main reason towards this change is the billing rate. The perspective of the companies abroad had changed. They believe that it is very easy to get a person scale up in a new technology if the person can communicate and understand the opposite party.

The above is the best reason why people from under developed countries too had started to focus learning the global language English.

The Good & The Bad News:

With respect to the software jobs in India – There is a good drop in the numbers of the issuance of pink slips. But in parallel the hike percentage, an employee receives and received so far is also at the lower level. These things do not mean that our jobs are secure and the market is back to normal or picking up.

As we all know already. Yes, it is a rough patch for the software jobs in India and this rough patch has come to stay for a while.

It is very evident,

– when we compare the total number of the jobs created by companies this year and the previous year.

– when we compare the salary hikes given this year with the previous year.

– Also, from the podcasts of many HR professionals from some of the software firms.

How To Secure Our Jobs?

With Automation on the left and organizational restructuring on the right, we still have got few options.

Issuance of pink slips will not stop but what we as an employee can do is to upskill ourselves. The term up-skill had found a great spot in the dictionaries of a software jobs provider as well as a software developer.

Realizing the need to up-skill and improving our knowledge is the best option we have got if we want to secure our jobs in this era. This is applicable not only for the software jobs in India but for all the software professionals around the world.

The Attitude:

The first and the foremost is to change our perspective or attitude towards our jobs. Instead of thinking how to safeguard our jobs, think on how to regularize our paychecks. Without a paycheck, we are nothing. But, remember paychecks are not dependent on one single employer.

The Tips:

  • Do Not Lose Hope

– The company in which we are now is not the only one. If not this then some other company, remember that.

  • Up-Skill/Re-Skill

– Accommodate yourself to learn new niche skills. The software jobs market sees a good number of new technologies daily. Nowadays, they are like the mushrooms that grow after rains.

– For instance, there are big names like SAP HANA, Big Data, Hadoop, Cloud, Internet Of Things (IoT) and more.

– Online websites like Udemy, Cloudera and more can help us learn new technologies without wasting time on commuting.

  • Learn Coding

– Some people do not feel comfortable with coding. But, if you a re person who likes coding, then sharpen your skill further.

For example, in the field of SAP technology. ABAP developers play a role of a coder where they write codes in the application layer of the system. But with the introduction of SAP HANA, the old coding techniques are not always helpful. The SAP technology has got a term now referring ABAP On HANA with some tweaking’s on the approach.

  • Learn New Language

– Mastering a new language is an incredible gift.

– Try mobile applications like Duolingo to learn new languages. 30 minutes of our time daily with this app can help us learn a new language.

– Software companies in India had already reduced their focus towards the USA market. Learning a foreign language will project you as a great asset to your employer. It won’t be wise for them to cut you down.

  • Advertise Yourself

– Nobody will project your efficiency to your boss if not you. If you cannot showcase yourself, then you are doing a big mistake.

  • Be Consistent

– Being consistent helps you to taste Success.

– It is very easy to achieve a certain level but the difficulty lies in how we keep that level. Consistency is the only one that can help here.

  • Manage Time

– People who manage their time well had never failed in their career and life.

– Reach office on time and leave at the correct time.

– Ensure not to miss a deadline of your tasks.

  • When You Don’t Know, Raise The Flag – Ask

– Asking is one of the traits which employers look for. By asking things you do not know in your work, you not only gain knowledge but also shows your willingness to learn.

  • Listen & Let Your Actions Speak

– Empty vessels make noise. Listening is a very powerful weapon when it comes to career.

  • Motivate Others

– Be a go to person.

– Inspire others by your knowledge and behavior.

– Drive people to go beyond their ability and help them achieve an extra mile whenever possible.

  • Put Yourself In Other’s Shoes

– If we cannot understand what others feel, then we are nothing. This is one of the critical aspects which we need to have at the workplace.

  • Build Your Network & Resume

– Building professional network plays a great role in a successful career.

– It is important that we update our resume once in three months at least. If you do not have anything to update, then stop – you are in a wrong direction.

  • Treat Everyone With Respect

– Everyone is good at something. No one is good at everything.

– Never underestimate others especially at work. You will never know when he/she would become your boss.

  • Think, How To Become An Employer

– Love your job, not the employer. You will never know when you would be asked to leave.

– Read technical as well as non-technical books, try to come up with ideas which will help you become a boss.

Software jobs are very volatile like a Bitcoin digital currency nowadays. It is going to be that way for long.

We cannot prevent any employers of the software jobs to stay away from trimming their work force. Same goes with the automation and organizational restructurings.

But, it is our responsibility to ensure that we stay in the software job market at least until we close our home, study, and auto loans.

Ask This Question By Standing Infront Of A Mirror:

How long can we run a family without a paycheck?

Our Savior credit card will not help us for long.

Do you sleep at work?

Do you get an urge to sleep at work?

It is always good to have a real quick sleep at work after lunch. When I say it’s good, I am referring to the 15-30 minutes nap. A Good Sleep plays an important role in finalizing a person’s success in career and in life.

sleep at work

Companies in Japan had initiated sleep at work policy to encourage their employees to take a quick nap after lunch. Short sleep at work after lunch is proven to increase the productivity of the employees.

Besides, it is very normal for people to sleep off when they are dog tired but not all the times.

Remember that too much of anything is good for nothing. If you think that your sleep pattern falls into the abnormal category then it is time for you to dig on to it to find the root cause and take necessary actions.

Lack of sleep during the night can be because of Insomnia, Sleep Apnea, Parasomnias etc.

Reasons why people sleep at work:

  • Due to lack of interest towards the job.

– This is one of the major reason why people get bored at the office, in turn, sleep at work.

– Due to routine boring tasks.

  • Due to lack of opportunities.

– There are times when we would be totally free with very less to no work. For example, software professionals who support their clients abroad usually receive lesser work during Christmas holidays.

  • Due to Medical issues.

– People with underactive thyroid are most likely to sleep during the day due to lethargic nature.

– Hormonal imbalances.

  • Due to lack of sleep during the night.

– It is highly recommended to get at least 6 – 8 hours of sleep.

– Sleep Deprivation leads to fatigue during daytime, anxiety issues, depression and more.

  • Due to Narcolepsy in other words sleep attacks which are known to occur during the day might also be the reason why you sleep during the day.
  • Due to heavy workouts & stress.

– Beginners who hit the fitness centers are more likely to sleep at work due to body pains.

  • Due to excessive consumption of meals during lunch.

– Tasty food items lure people with great taste buds. Ha.. ha.. ha.. just kidding. But, it’s true that people who consume rice in large quantities sleep off during the day.

  • Due to lack of brain chemical Dopamine.

– The release of brain chemical Dopamine is responsible for the human to get Motivated.

  • Due to an intake of certain medications.

– For example, pills like Cetirizine and cough syrups like Benadryl.

  • Due to jet lags.

How to avoid sleeping at work?

  • Sleep well during the night. Ensure that you get adequate sleep.
  • Cut down on sugar intake.
  • Turn off or stay away from your cell phone at least an hour before you go to the bed. It is proven that the blue light from the mobile devices leads to sleep disorders by affecting our eyes.

Tip: There are apps like Twilight which helps to arrest blue light which gets emitted from the mobile screen to some extent.

  • Do not overstuff yourself with food items. Know your limits.
  • Stay Motivated.
  • Interact with people around you. Building networks at the workplace can help in a great way in our career.
  • Keep yourself occupied with activities like reading books, listening to good music, write about something etc.
  • Speak to your manager for additional responsibilities whenever you have the bandwidth.
  • Get involved in extra curricular activities and events at the work place. For example, events like Toastmasters, code hackers etc. would not only keep you occupied but also gives you a great exposure.
  • Call your friends in other companies over the phone and say “Hi”.Utilize the time to stay in touch with your friends and ex-colleagues instead of sleeping.
  • You can also refresh yourself by playing games on your mobile with your friends. Games like 8 ball pool, Asphalt, clash of clans etc can be played on a multiplayer mode. This will just help you to refresh yourself and keep you away from sleeping.
